Useful information

Our staircases detailed instruction manual can be found on our Installation Guides page.

In addition to this we have put together some useful information that you might like to consider before you start building your spiral staircase.

Don’t forget you can also look at our FAQs page for any more specific questions you may have.

The floor-to-floor measurement

In order to choose the right spiral staircase, you’ll need to know the floor to floor measurement of the space the staircase will go in. This is the distance from the finished lower floor (e.g. paved patio) to finished upper floor (decking/landing).

Fixings

You will require fixings to secure the stair in place. We do not supply these as they will vary depending on the material you are fixing the staircase to. Only you will be able to determine the best fixing for your building.

Base plate considerations

When placing your order with us, we ask you if the base plate will be above or below the ground, this will affect the kit you receive.

If the ground is stable and you want to see the base plate, choose ‘above ground level’.

If the ground is not load bearing you will need to cast a footing in concrete. This would normally be below the ground or finished floor level and infilled to hide the fixings. In this case select ‘below ground level’. If cast below ground level, an additional column spacer is required.

Recommended tools

Before you start making a spiral staircase you will find the following tools useful to have to hand.

- An SDS drill with 12mm SDS drill bit for masonry

- A hacksaw

- A standard drill with a 4mm metal working drill bit

- An adjustable spanner with a 6- 20mm range

- A hammer

- Tape measure

We include a spacer in the kit to help install the uprights/balusters, so they are parallel.

Working at height

You will be working at height when you install our spiral staircase, so it is important to think about any health and safety implications.

For working at height an access tower is recommended and a genie lift for installing the landing.

Heavy components

Some of the components of our spiral staircase kits are heavy so please take this into consideration when planning your delivery and install.

A minimum of two people are required to install our spiral staircases.
